AAD 2000 saw the creation of the consultative committees and at AAD 2001 – 2003 the work of the consultative committees was summarised in EC reports. At AAD 2004 the consultative committees sent a member to AAD to report on the work of the consultative committee over the year.
At AAD 2004 a rule change was proposed which gave the consultative committees a delegation to AAD. This rule change was adopted and the consultative committees were able to send a delegation and motion to future AADs.
This change meant that at AAD 2005, which was also the union’s 125th anniversary, the views and concerns of our equality committees were able to be raised and debated as motions by the whole union at AAD. As AAD delegates our equalities committees are also able to propose rule changes at the appropriate AADs. Any motions that are accepted become the union’s policy and since 2005, our equality committees have been able to take part in the democracy of AAD, contributing towards the shaping of the union’s policy.
