In November 2020 the Young Members Representative Committee hosted a webinar with the International Transport Federation, bringing together young railway workers from the UK, Turkey, Argentina and India to discuss their experiences.
James Sutherland Chair of the ASLEF Young Members Representative Committee chaired a panel of speakers including Simi Lalsingh from the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen and Women, Luciano Solomon from the Asociación de Señaleros Ferroviarios Argentinos, Kemal Karapinar from the Birlesik Tasimacilik Çalisanlari Sendikasi (BTS) (United Transport Workers’ Union) and Baker Khundakj from the International Transport Federation.
Member of Aslef logged into the webinar and heard about the working conditions in each country, the impacts that Covid had had and trade union activism. There was an open discussion after the contributions where attendees could ask questions of each.
