In May 2018, LGBT+ Committee member Darran Brown became the first openly gay man to Chair ASLEF’s annual conference.
When interviewed for The Journal, Darran was asked why he put himself forward”
Because it’s in my district and I feel it’s important we have someone on the main stage. I felt confident I could do the job – until I got up there!
It’s very much more involved than I ever thought. I was quite nervous at first and a little unsure and a little wobbly underfoot. But I gained in confidence, improved and settled in.
