2005: International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a global day held annually on 8th March to celebrate the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women.

In March 2005 ASLEF held its first event to celebrate International Women’s Day in Leeds. The Women’s Consultative Committee were joined by officers and members as they congregated at The Commercial, the birthplace of the union.

They marched from here handing out leaflets calling for International Women’s Day to become a recognised bank holiday.
