2005: HIV and AIDS Policy

ASLEF members are subject to random drug and alcohol tests which will reveal if they are taking anti-retroviral drugs even if they are fit and well. This means that keeping silent about their HIV+ status is not an option for ASLEF members.

This situation led the LGBT and BEM Consultative Committees to create a workplace guide to HIV and AIDS.

The booklet was designed to be used as a guide for union negotiators to secure best practice workplace policies for people who are HIV+, and includes guidance on indirect discrimination, harassment, reasonable adjustments, medication and drug testing.
